RECENT WORK Early 2017
THE FUTURE OF S O M E T H I N G: Recent Work By Pat Pendleton and J. Tim Raymond April 29 to May 21, 2017 Real generosity towards the future lies in giving all to the present (Albert Camus). The future enters into us, in order to transform itself in us, long before it happens (Rainer Maria Rilke). Art is slow. Most of life seems to take place in the here and then--what is and what was. The idea of the future slips in as a question mark, much like the process of painting. This selection of work is simply the result of paintings created in recent months, sliced from larger bodies of work that have evolved in the continuation of our individual art practices--a conversation of statements, questions, and responses that arise during the physical process of working with materials on a human scale to arrive at an unknown destination, rather than execution of a imagined picture. Pat Pendleton?s work explores interior space while J. Tim Raymond is grounded in exterior space that seeks horizon, both share in the notion voiced by the artist, Francis Bacon: "The job of the artist is to deepen the mystery."
